Jimmy Bryan staked his claim to fame on the race car circuit by claiming the 1958 Indy 500 title. This gear was race worn by Bryan during the 1950s: 1) Aviakit racing helmet worn from 1956-58, cigar smoke still permeates the headband. 2) Pair of cowboy racing boots worn in Indy 500 and throughout career. The boots were hung up in Bryan's father's house, as mentioned in LOA by Gasper, and he also wore them on the February 1955 cover of Speed Age. 3) Kidney Belt. Comes with signed letter from Tom Milton wishing Bryan luck, all have LOAs signed by Len Gasper and Jimmy Bryan's father, R.L "Pete" Bryan. Each piece originates from Gasper's personal collection and the lot comes with a postcard of Bryan wearing the helmet. Bryan tragically passed as a result of injuries suffered in a champ car race in 1960.
