“Gashouse Gang” Original Painting by Richard Merkin

“Gashouse Gang” Original Painting by Richard Merkin

The spirit of the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals “Gashouse Gang” wonderfully represented in this splendid oil-on-canvas. In the frame are manager, Frank Frisch and Dizzy Dean. Frisch’s red uniform number, “3” is visible on the back of his jersey. This World Champion Cardinals team was a true personification of the Depression era, the players were always dirty, their uniforms torn, but they also had the most fun and were the most colorful players in Major League baseball, despite being underpaid. Diz, pictured with cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Paints are thick, and colors are bold. Artwork measures 20x24” and sits in wooden frame (21.5x25.5”). Mint.
