The seven sons of the Earl of Derby, Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, were obsessed with hockey and were among the best players of their time. They formed the Rideau Rebels, one of the first organized teams in Ottawa, organized the first meeting of what would become the OHA and convinced their father to donate a Challenge Cup bearing the family name. Stanley's eldest son, Edward, who would later take the title of the Earl of Derby, has signed this cut as "Derby" about 1940. Included is an 8x10 photo of the Rideau Rebels with the Stanley brothers. Important signature from one of the earliest players in the game's history. NRMT.
