1926 Providence “Rubes” (Marquard) Trophy Ball and Team Signed Baseball

1926 Providence “Rubes” (Marquard) Trophy Ball and Team Signed Baseball

Two important baseballs from this fascinating franchise named for and starring Rube Marquard. After being released from the Boston Braves, Marquard was wooed to nearby Providence to become player-manager of the newly created Eastern League “Providence Rubes.” A) The firsts ball is inscribed, “This is the ball Providence won the 1926 Pennant…September 17, 1926 Bill Anderson Pitcher.” The ball has had most of its trademark rubbed off but does not appear to be “Official.” Otherwise excellent with appropriate game use. B) The second ball is a team baseball signed by about 20 members of these 1926 Eastern League Champions. Most importantly, Rube Marquard is the best signature of all (EX) and has signed it in clear, dark black ink on the top of a panel. Ball is a period Official National League ball with the facsimile signature of the Eastern League President. Overall a very pleasant looking VG+. Obtained in the Providence area from the descendants of the pitcher.
