1949 Kentucky Derby winner Ponder was a 16 - 1 longshot, that somehow beat the odds to take horse racing's greatest crown. Offered are the four horseshoes attached to Ponder's feet when he won that most important of all races. The four "shoes" are composed of a light metal, each marked on the flip side either "Front Feet" or "Back Feet" on pieces of medical tape and still exhibit some Churchill Downs dirt caked in their nooks and crannies. They are accompanied by a vintage handwritten letter by the person who obtained the shoes from the horse's blacksmith, a mailing label to the original recipient of the shoes, and two original newspaper articles about Ponder's big upset at the 1949 Derby.
