If you’re going to present a trophy to the player you’ve selected as an MVP of your favorite team, you might want to spell the guy’s name right, but in 1965 the Blackhawks fan club chose Stan Mikita and spelled his last name “Makita.” The Blackhawk Standby’s Inc. is the oldest fan club in the National Hockey League. It was founded in 1944 by a group of fans that sat in the first balcony of Chicago Stadium. Each year the fan club selects who they feel is the MVP of the Blackhawks and presents the player with a trophy. Trophy has a 23” cup with an athlete atop it on the uppermost level. 4 hockey players (3-3/4’) surround it. Level below it has a 6-1/2” tall figure surrounded by 4 columns and the base has two pillars with a bird sitting on top of the Earth. Plaque on face “Susan Eberle (presumably a member of the fan club who had passed on) Memorial Award Blackhawk Standbys Most Valuable Player 1964-65 Stan Mikita.” Whole trophy is 14-3/4 X 10” and 38-1/2” tall. Its weight is 19 lb 5.4 ounces.
