One of the most prestigious awards given out annually is the NAACP Image Award. An NAACP Image Award is an accolade presented by the American National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to honor outstanding people of color in film, television, music, literature, sport and other categories. The award ceremony was first presented in 1967 and was first nationally televised in 1994. The first live broadcast of the event occurred in 2007. Offered here is the Image Award given to then heavyweight champion Larry Holmes in 1983. The award has a metallic band at the base with the inscription, "16TH ANNUAL NAACP IMAGE AWARDS 1983 SPORT-BOXING LARRY HOLMES."
