Haley tells Murray in this Aug. 14, 1977 letter that "when I'd just finished writing Roots...I began reading your work [and] the more I did, the more I perceived -- this guy is damned good." Letter typed on Haley stationery is especially noteworthy for Haley relating "Sports never was really much of my thing. Too young, and small, when I might have competed in school." He then tells of his education and "affair with typewriters." Signed, "Cordially, Alex," the name in black marker. 5.5 x 8.5" and NRMT w/2 light folds.
