In 1892 Jimmy Swinnerton became a staff cartoonist for Hearst's San Francisco Examiner and his first assignments was to produce a weekly cartoon for the children's section of the paper. He came up with The Little Bears, considered by most the first comic strip ever, preceding The Yellow Kid by three years. (4) negatives circa 1930. Two show him at work, two posed with pipe in hand in front of an old tube radio. NRMT. 4x5".
