Cigar conquered the thoroughbred racing world by reeling off 16 consecutive victories spanning from 1994-1996, and in the process defeated the greatest handicap horses from Southern California to the deserts of Dubai. The earner of $9,999,815, Cigar retired as the richest American thoroughbred of all-time. He soon called the world famous Kentucky Horse Park home, wherehe welcomed visitors from around the globe up until his passing in 2014. It was during his residence at the KHP that this very well used lead shank was clipped on Cigar’s halter as he was paraded to his adorning fans. The lead shank was presented to then-Hall of Champions manager Cathy Roby, who allowed Cigar to use this lead shank for nearly a year, after which it was returned and stored until today. This is believed to be the only such item used by Cigar, which featured his name engraved on a brass plate. Three photo-matched pictures of Cigar as well as a letter of provenance will accompany.
