Legendary saxophonist and composer John Coltrane was a true pioneer who helped shape the free jazz movement. Though he only lived 40 years, he left a legacy that very few could match in the world of music. This impeccable photo is inscribed: "Best Wishes Tommy, John Coltrane." The photo itself measures 8" x 9" and is bordered in red. The glossy promotional item was deglossed to accommodate the signature, which is a solid 8-9 out of ten in blue, ballpoint pen. The man nicknamed "Trane" had a massive influence, and his revolutionary use of multi-tone systems in jazz has become a widespread composition technique known as "Coltrane Changes." After his death in 1967, he received multiple honors, including the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation for his "masterful improvisation, supreme musicianship and iconic centrality to the history of jazz."
