Jim Jeffries won the World Heavyweight Title in 1899 stopping Robert Fitzsimmons in 11 rounds. He successfully defended that title seven times before retiring undefeated in 1905. Five years later he was goaded into coming out of retirement and soundly beaten by then champion Jack Johnson. This cabinet photograph circa 1910’s pictures Jim Jeffries posing with three other men. The photograph measures approx. 6 x 8” and is mounted on an olive green matte board with an overall measurement of approx. 10 x 12”. The photograph is signed by Jas. J. Jeffries with a steel tip pen in black ink. The line shows good pressure and the signature itself retains its clarity earning it a rating of 8.5. The condition of the vintage photograph is EX with minimal wrinkling, minor edge damage and good tonal qualities. The matte board is missing a ?” piece out of the bottom left corner, the other corners also show considerable wear but none of this has any effect on the central image.
