The Holy Grail of rock 'n roll. The signature instrument of the most influential musician in the history of rock 'n roll. This is the finest Jimi Hendrix guitar to be offered publicly since his immortal Woodstock guitar was auctioned in 1991. This amazing instrument was presented by guitar god and mentor Jimi Hendrix to his fellow rocker and disciple Stephen Stills. Brilliantly documented, the guitar and the fascinating story of how Stills obtained it is discussed at length in the August 1977 issue of Songwriter magazine in an interview with writer Ron Sanford.Stills is quoted: "We came down to my house in Malibu after the Monterey Pop Festival and played for 14 hours on the beach. Basically, Jimi kicked me in the behind and told me to play lead guitar. We also traded guitars. I had a real nice old right-handed Stratocaster and he had a real nice old left-handed Strat. And he said that really they play a lot better upside down." This is one of many of the left-handed guitars that Jimi owned. He wanted Stills to string it upside down as taught to Jimi by legendary bluesman Albert King. He goes on to sadly recount his most recent contact with the instrument: "Only in the last couple of weeks have I been able to get it together enough to start buffing it out. Cause I just kind of stuck it back after he died. I really didn't want to see it. Seems kind of silly but I just couldn't play it."A superb specimen of Leo Fender's perfect musical invention, the Stratocaster is known as the first rock 'n roll guitar. Arguably Jimi's trademark guitar, this 1957 model sports a lovely opaque blonde finish (serial number 18093). In excellent condition it carries the characteristic Hendrix details like the white endings as opposed to metal and the changed Kluson pegs. Stills is shown here holding the guitar in 1977. The guitar comes with a letter from the writer of the article confirming that Stephen in fact received this guitar from Jimi, plus proof of ownership, protective hard shell case and gig bag. The guitar has been authenticated by Hendrix guitar expert Richard Friedman. The finest rock 'n roll piece we have ever had the pleasure to offer.
