This is an incredibly varied and enormous collection of wire photographs from the SFX archives which encompass the majority of the 20th century. There are images which date from the early 1930's up through the 1980's. The collection includes a wide range of sizes though most are standard 5 x 7", 7 x 9" and 8 x 10" images. The subject matter is diverse with everything from a 600 carat uncut diamond, one of the world's largest, the vaudeville star Maggie Cline, early movie icon Huntly Gordon to images of strip mining throughout the U.S. The collection includes a large number of studio publicity shots for upcoming movies that span several decades. Approximately 30% of the images date from the 1930's and 1940's, 30% from the 1950's and 1960's and 40% from the 1970's and 1980's. The condition of the photographs is also wide ranging with 10% rated Fair , 30% rated G, 30% rated VG and 30% rated EX. Hours of discovery are contained in this box of photographs which provide a revealing insight into 20th century American culture.
