Three-page handwritten letter is a miraculous window into the unfinished life of the biggest Hollywood star of all time, Marilyn Monroe. Addressed to her half-sister, Berniece Miracle, it is fondly written on “Catalina Island United States Maritime Service” stationary. It is three pages altogether (first page written on both sides), penned by Monroe in the early 1940’s, while she was still known as Norma Jean Baker. Content refers to her first husband, Jimmie Dougherty, whom she married at age 16. She was writing from Catalina Island, while staying with her husband who had joined the Merchant Marines. In the letter Monroe reminisces about experiences with her mother as a young child, yearns for Berniece to join her off the coast of California, and describes a happy time in her life with her husband. Signed, “With Much Love, Norma Jean” and initialed after her added postscript, “NJ.” Black fountain ink is only slightly faded, and her signature grades a strong “7” out of a possible 10. Each page measures 7x10”. Original mailing folds, otherwise EX. Comes with 8x10” portrait of Berniece Miracle with her husband, Paris. This amazing piece originally emanates from the personal collection of Berniece Miracle.
