Pick Axe Awarded To Yankees Groundskeeper Chas. McManus 1933-1934

Pick Axe Awarded To Yankees Groundskeeper Chas. McManus 1933-1934

Now here's an item you don't see every day! This pick axe has two engraved plates identifying it as being originally used in the groundbreaking ceremonies of the Kill Van Kull bridge by Mayor Bert Daly of Bayonne, NJ. An additional plaque was added later awarding it to "Chas. (not George) McManus Champion Groundskeeper Yankee Stadium 1933-1934." The McManus presentation is tarnished silver with very high quality engraving. More than just a very unique display piece, the sturdy wood handle measures 35" long and the metallic pick portion 25" across, with the entire item weighing nearly nine pounds.
