Roger Maris Original 1961 Film Reel of his 61st Home Run

Roger Maris Original 1961 Film Reel of his 61st Home Run

Erratum.
This movie was shot from the infield seats not the outfield seats as listed in the catalog.

Original 8 MM film reel from the most remembered moment in all of baseball history, the moment that Roger Maris claimed his spot in baseball immortality. It was the moment a 34-year old record, the most prestigious record in the entire sport, held by America's most beloved sports hero was shattered, eclipsed for all of eternity. Filmed from Yankee Stadium's outfield stands, length of the reel is approximately 20 minutes, including moments before the game, as well as Maris' first at-bat (resulting in a fly-out). Most importantly, it contains the moment of contact for that historic home run and the cameraman has followed the path of the baseball into the right field stands at Yankee Stadium. "Another standing ovation for Roger Maris!" (Phil Rizzuto). Baseball's new home run king. Unbelievably rare original footage from one of the great moments in sports. Our consignor has owned this film for over 10 years and it is just now seeing the light of day. It was among a collection of traded items which he himself did not discover until 5 years after he made the trade. What a find! Reel also includes amazing vintage footage of Casey Stengel, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra & Elston Howard (filmed in late 1960). The footage, although closely resembling the 1991 broadcast on CBS and MSG is markedly different (coincidentally, both films were shot from the same area in the outfield stands!). The 1991 broadcast does not “return” to the outfield seats to catch the scramble for the ball but rather stays focused on Maris rounding the bases after the shot. The original film reel offered here also does not include Maris’ curtain call. To make a clear statement, this is NOT the home movie shown in 1991 on MSG and CBS, but a never before seen home movie of the historic event which is just now seeing the light of day!
