Slew o' Gold was unquestionably one of the greatest handicap stars of the 1980s, therefore, unearthing an item from this superstar is quite the find. American champion three-year-old in 1983 and American champion older male in 1984, the son of the immortal Seattle Slew was enshrined in thoroughbred racing’s Hall of Fame in 1992 and, according to the Bloodhorse's top 100 horses of the 20th century, ranks #58. He won the Jockey Club Gold Cup (twice), Woodward Stakes (twice), Whitney Stakes, Marlboro Cup, Wood Memorial and Peter Pan Stakes – in addition to narrow 2nd place finishes in the Belmont Stakes, Breeders' Cup Classic, Travers and Marlboro Cup. Slew o' Gold was retired to Three Chimneys Farm after finishing 2nd in the thrilling inaugural running of the BC Classic in 1984. This leather stallion halter worn at Three Chimney's Farm was acquired during a fundraiser benefiting a horse rescue organization and is accompanied by a letter of provenance.
