The Ring Magazine Original Artwork by C.R. Schaare

The Ring Magazine Original Artwork by C.R. Schaare

Christian Richard "Dick" Schaare Jr. was one of the notable sports artists of the early 20th century. Between 1932 and 1941 he painted a remarkable series of eighty-two covers for the boxing periodical, The Ring. He grew to become a close friend of the publisher, Nat Fleischer. Offered here is original art of C.R. Schaare depicting the end of a bare knuckle boxing match, from the collection of Nat Fleischer. This is original art on artist board with bold color, signed by the artist in the lower right. Has some soiling and water stain at top right and on right edge, edge and corner wear, but beautiful color and wonderful depiction of a bygone era in boxing. Measuring 20x21.5", the art of C.R.Schaare is among the most collected in the hobby.
