Georges Goursat - or "Sem" as he was more commonly known - was a French caricaturist from that country's famous "Belle Epoque" period at the turn of the century. His two works offered here were used for selling war bonds with World War I scenes as the backdrop. The first measures 33" x 46" and depicts scored of French soldiers heading off to battle with the following text: "POUR LE TRIOMPHE JOUSCRIVEZ A L'EMPRUNT NATIONAL LES SOUSCRIPTIONS SONT RECUES A PARIS ET EN PROVINCE BANQUE NATIONALE DE CREDIT." The second is 32" x 48" and also shows soldiers in uniform under the direction of three superior officers along with the message: "POUR LE DERNIER QUART D'HEURE... LES SOUSCRIPTIONS A L'EMPRUNT NATIONAL SONT RECUES A LA BANQUE NATIONAL DE CREDIT." Both bear the mark of the Paris printing company, Devambez.
