This documents one of the earliest versions of card collecting. This is a rag paper sheet of so called “Holy Cards” that date from the 1600’s. Originally came from Italy and show the Saints of old; these were meant to be cut up into separate cards. These would be handed out to parishioners and collected to depict their favorite saints. They may not be baseball players but there are definitely some guys you may want on your team. The sheet is approximately 16x12” and there are 25 separate cards picturing Saints of the Catholic Religion. These were obtained out of an archive in Cuba; however, we believe they were originally printed in Spain. They are dated circa 1650 in pencil that is eons old. Overall sheet is Excellent.
