'Extremely rare' 1911 photo of special game in Cleveland up for auction
CLEVELAND, Ohio - An auction house is selling a very rare, 1911 panoramic photograph of major league stars assembled in Cleveland for a historical benefit game.
Cleveland pitcher Addie Joss died at age 31 of tubercular meningitis in April 1911. Struck down after nine productive years on the mound, his death shocked the baseball world, which came together in Cleveland to raise money for his widow, Lillian.
"There is nothing really comparable to it," said Josh Evans of Lelands Auctions.
