George Washington’s Lock of Hair Sold for $40,000
George Washington’s mane has sold for a hair (get it?) short of $40,000.
The first President's vintage locks garnered $39,921.60 in the Leland’s Classic auction, which started at $1,000 and ended after 45 bids – beating the $35,763.60 a similar lock went for in February 2019.
Washington’s hair, which was believed to have been removed from the first president close to or after his death in 1799 at age 67, was stored in a handmade brass and glass locket. Read more here.
