New ‘Miracle on Ice’: $5.7 million for memorabilia

A priceless sports moment is going up for sale.

A lot of 19 items used by 1980 U.S. Olympic goaltender Jim Craig during the hockey team’s miraculous gold medal run in Lake Placid, N.Y., will be available on beginning Aug. 1, with the entire collection valued at $5.7 million.

Among the numerous historic pieces included in the private sale are Craig’s gold medal, his jersey from the all-time upset of the Soviet Union in the semifinals and the American flag he had wrapped around his shoulders after winning the final game against Finland, which have been appraised at more than $1 million each.
