1927 New York Yankees Signed Payroll Checks with Urban Shocker (4)

While Urban Shocker might sound like a great name for a pro wrestler, the name belonged to a Major Leaguer in the 1910s and 20s, having led the American League in strikeouts in 1922. He was part of the powerhouse 1927 Yankees, as was this collection of signed payroll checks dated that year. Other checks were issued to Walther Ruether, Mark Koenig, and George Pipgras - all are signed on the front by Hall of Famers Ed Barrow and Jacob Ruppert and endorsed by the players on back, with Shocker's signature being an especially rare one. The checks have folds but the sigs average 8/10. The "Murderer's Row" Yanks of '27 won 110 games, swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series, and are widely considered the greatest team of all time.
