1939 Gulliver’s Travels Original Paintings (6)

1939 Gulliver’s Travels Original Paintings (6)

These fabulous paintings from Fleischer Studios are by Russell Roberts, the Art Director for National Screen Service. These were used as lobby designs in theaters to promote upcoming showings of the second ever feature length animated film (Snow White was the first). These are incredible quality gouaches on animation board. There are a total of six of these, averaging 12x10”. Five are fullest color and one is stunning b/w. They feature all the characters from this important animation classic including King Bombo, Gabby, King Little, and of course, Gulliver. Quality is magnificent. National Screen Service produced the classic movie posters of the time. Russell Roberts personally crafted these beautiful drawings. As A.D., it was Roberts’ responsibility to create the marvelous lobby displays for the grand art deco theaters of the 1930s. Best of all there is a photograph of him at his drawing table and he is drawing one of the actual drawings from this collection! NRMT.
