Charles Sheldon Original Artwork (12.5x16")
Pastel from the Art Deco period, by Charles Sheldon is a wonderfully sexy image of a woman of the day, rendered by this important illustrator. Most likely original art for a late 1920's or early 1930's magazine cover / advertisement. Charles Sheldon (1889-1961) was a well-known illustrator and portrait painter who is believed to have studied in Paris under Alphonse Mucha. Sheldon achieved some prominence for his paintings of movie stars for the cover of Photoplay magazine in the 1920’s and other magazines after that. He worked mostly in pastels, and this piece is a typical representation. Unsigned on the front, as is common with illustration art intended for print, his name is signed on a separate piece of paper on the back. EX.
