Circa 1912 Harry Hooper Spikes Obtained Directly from Harry Hooper

Circa 1912 Harry Hooper Spikes Obtained Directly from Harry Hooper

These spikes came directly from legendary collector Paul Hill, who is is a totally unique, groundbreaking collector and his reputation for authenticity in the hobby is without par. He first was introduced to him in the mid-1980s when he visited his home. His darkened basement collection was a mini-Cooperstown filled with treasures such as a 100% genuine pair of Mickey Mantle spikes to an Ed Walsh playing era Chicago White cap; he had obtained both directly from the players. Walsh had sent him the cap through the mail, and the Mantle spikes while waiting outside the clubhouse after a 1959 game (he still had the ticket stub). His uniqueness was that Paul "bought" virtually none of his stuff. He obtained everything free of charge and got his material DIRECTLY FROM THE PLAYERS. Unfortunately, building a collection like this is simply something that could not be accomplished today. This further expands the importance and uniqueness of this collection. In turn, Paul Hill obtained these spikes directly from Harry Hooper. They show very nice use and have Spalding tags inside the tongues, and the right spike is missing the laces. Items in this lot will come with LOA from Lelands.com to guarantee their authenticity.
