Muhammad Ali Signed 1978 Ali-Norton Heavyweight Championship Fight Contract

Muhammad Ali Signed 1978 Ali-Norton Heavyweight Championship Fight Contract

In September of 1976, Muhammad Ali successfully defended his heavyweight title against old time nemesis Ken Norton. It was a close fight and many observers thought Norton had prevailed. There were calls for a fourth fight, and a preliminary letter of agreement was drawn up on December 14, 1977, which we offer here, laying out the provisions for the fight. This is a four-page agreement with notations; it is a photocopy of the original, but does have real signatures on the last page including Muhammad Ali and promoter Bob Arum, who boldly signed in blue ink. The fight never came off as Ali chose for his next fight Olympic Champion Leon Spinks who pulled off the upset. The agreement is 8.5x11" and is clean and remains a part of the history of Muhammad Ali.
