1925 Pottsville Maroons World Championship Football Pendant

1925 Pottsville Maroons World Championship Football Pendant

From the "Better Late Than Never" department., the 1925 Maroons did not get rings as they were not recognized as Champions by the NFL. But in minds of much of the Nation including the city Pottsville, the Maroons were the undisputed World Champions that fateful season. That is why the city of Pottsville, in concert with team and town leader Joseph Zacko, awarded each team member a golden football pendant during a 1960s reunion. This is as important as a Championship ring and shares the same symbolism. Championship rings were not even awarded during this early period of the NFL. Awarded to player Frank Racis shortly after the 1925 season concluded, this pendant is in EX-MT condition and is the only surviving example that we have seen. The year 1925 is split by a large maroon "P," while FRANK RACIS GUARD is also printed. Also engraved is: POTTSVILLE MAROONS WORLDS CHAMPIONS." A priceless memento from an unforgettable season.
