1954 Cleveland Indians American League Championship Tie Bar

1954 Cleveland Indians American League Championship Tie Bar

The 1954 Cleveland Indians dominated baseball with a 111-43 record, never losing three games in a row all season. That is, until the World Series, when the Tribe was stunned by Willie Mays and the New York Giants in a four-game sweep. One of the nifty consolation prizes awarded to players and team personnel was this gorgeous, 14K gold tie bar designed by Balfour. Sixty years after it was manufactured, it is in NRMT condition and features the familiar face of Chief Wahoo inside a baseball diamond with, "1954" at the top and "Cleveland Indians" along the third and first-base lines, respectively. The barrel of the bat reads: "AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS," and on the reverse is engraved: "1954 ALL-TIME RECORD 111 GAMES WON." The Indians - who last won a World Series in 1948 - have gone 0-for-3 in the Fall Classic ever since, losing the 1954 championship, as well as the 1995 and 1997 Series to Atlanta and Florida, respectively.
