End of the Curse Outfield Sign

End of the Curse Outfield Sign

This vinyl adhesive sign emblazoned with the MLB “World Series 2004” logo was affixed to the outfield wall pads at Busch Stadium during the last two games. While it’s not from the Green Monster at Fenway Park, it holds the singular distinction of being situated right under the flight path of Johnny Damon’s game four leadoff homer -- the most decisive moment of the Red Sox’ four-game sweep of the Cardinals that gave the Sox their first championship since 1918. The irony of course is that while the Curse of the Bambino tortured them for 86 years, it was a home run that assured the end of the curse forever. Damon, who couldn’t hit a lick in the first 3 losing games to the Yankees in the ALCS, then didn’t stop as the Sox swept the last 8 games they played, stepped up against Jason Marquis to lead off the game and blasted a pitch over the bullpen -- directly behind the sign that hung on the front of the bullpen wall. The Sox never trailed from there on in, winning 3-0. The 2 pads on which the sign is mounted measures a combined 8’ tall and 4’ wide. The total padding is approx. 4” in depth. Logo rendering is of a blue globe on top of “World Series” and three boxes with different images below. Own the sign and relive the rush of altering the laws of nature, over and over. Authenticated by Deloitte and Touche, the official authenticator of Major League Baseball. Also accompanied by a LOA from the St. Louis Cardinals.
