1857 Hard Bound Issues Porter's Spirit of the Times Sports Magazine
Very nice hard-bound collection of 26 issue's of Porter's Spirit of the Times sports weekly from September 5, 1857 to February 27, 1858. "A Chronicle of the Turf, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage." Porter's had the leisure time activities of 19th century Americans covered. Articles on rowing, chess, draughts, hunting, cricket, swimming, horse racing, cock fighting, boxing and much more. Beautiful engravings on the front pages including a Harlem Model Yacht Club regatta and the Eagles vs the Gothams baseball at Elysian Fields. The boards and spine have some minor bumping and paper loss at the corners, but overall the book is in fine condition. The inner pages are in equally good condition with only minimal edge wear and/ or tearing.
