1888 N321 S. F. Hess Jack Hayes
Little is known of Jack Hayes other than that he played for the Stockton California team in the Pacific Coast League over 120 years ago. It seems that even less is known about the particular collection that this Hayes card originated from. Cards from the N321 set are rarely offered for sale (auction or otherwise) but this particular card is an anomaly even within this elusive issue. The captions at the bottom, which would normally be "S. F. Hess & CO's Creole Cigarettes" is absent. Most likely cut from a printer's sheet, the card front has all of the intended color as a full production card and presents as beautifully as any full production card. The stock is also somewhat thinner than a standard card. This card comes to us in VG condition and has slight evidence that it was, at one time attached to an album page.
