1900s-1920s Pittsburgh Pirates Game Programs (9)

1900s-1920s Pittsburgh Pirates Game Programs (9)

Wonderful trip back in time; some programs from over a century ago. Programs feature many iconic baseball names, such as Wagner, Matthewson, and Stengel, plus advertisements from more than 100 years in the past that are positively charming. 1) Pittsburg Pirates home versus New York Giants. So long ago that the team spelled Pittsburg without the "H." HOF great Honus Wagner listed at shortstop for the Pirates and Christy Mathewson as the Giants' pitcher. Game scored in pencil. 2) Pittsburg Pirates versus Cincinnati Reds. Honus Wagner. 3) 1907 Pittsburg home versus New York Giants -"Iron Man" McGinnity is listed as a possible New York starting pitcher. 4) 1909 New York Giants home versus Pittsburgh. Honus Wagner homers for Pittsburgh. Game scored in pencil. 5) 1918 Pittsburgh versus Chicago Cubs. Great ads for Vaudeville. Also, this was during World War I, and Casey Stengel, an outfielder with the Pirates, had just enlisted in the Navy, so he is not listed on the roster of the program, but his photo is on the back page with other players who were serving in the military at the time. 6) Pittsburgh versus Boston. Rube Marquard listed as Boston's starting pitcher. 7) 1924 Pittsburgh home versus Chicago Cubs. Gabby Hartnett. 8) 1927 Pittsburgh home versus Chicago Cubs. Waner brothers and Traynor. Charlie Root (of Ruth's "Called Shot" fame) pitching for Chicago. 9) Pittsburgh home versus Boston Braves. Traynor.
