1938 Cincinnati Reds Photographs (19) (Type I)

1938 Cincinnati Reds Photographs (19) (Type I)

This group of 19 black & white photos of the 1938 Cincinnati Reds photos is really fun. The 8x10" photos are mostly of informal off-field activities and have a relaxed feel about them. For example, one photo depicts Doc Rhode, who cut his arm, being treated by a horse doctor who answered the call, "Is there a doctor in the house?" Another photo has coach Ed Roush hamming it up during batting practice as he gives the "hold up" sign to an imaginary base runner. Another shot depicts legendary announcer Red Barber getting a throat swab for his voice. Another shot shows great "Double No Hitter" Johnny Vander Meer getting a shoe shine. One shot depicts a playful Ernie Lombardi collapsed on a hotel bed, and the humorous caption reads, "Ernie Lombardi goes up to DR. Rhode's room to file income tax report." A nice playful addition to any collection.
