19th Century Boxing Occupational Shaving Mug

19th Century Boxing Occupational Shaving Mug

Unusual to find a boxing occupational let alone with two fighters in rare gloved pugilistic scene. All handpainted with the name of the boxer painted in gold on the mug, it appears to read "Peter Grener." In Excellent condition, stands 3.5" tall. Circa 1880s, there is an amazingly detailed crowd scene watching the fight. In the old days, men went to the barber and had their own mug kept there in a rack. They had their names custom painted on them to know whose was whose and the best of the best had their own occupations handpainted on them. Boxing is about as good an "occupation" as it gets.
