There are several starting points for Muhmmad Ali's career and his first Heavyweight title in 1964, where it could be said he provoked then-champ Sonny Liston into not returning to the ring for the seventh round, is certainly one of them. He beat Liston as Cassius Clay, as can be appreciated by the embroidered red “CC” and the 9/10 black sharpie signature “Cassius Clay” - signed by the champ at a private signing - on the white silk of this exact replica of the trunks that he wore that night. He would return to the ring as Muhammad Ali, a name change that occurred roughly a month after the fight. This fine display celebrates Clay, and the fight that introduced the world to a fighter that could “float like a butterfly, and sting like a bee.” Supporting these glass framed trunks are a double-matted color photo of Clay, arms raised in definitive victory, and a placard description.
