Newly Discovered 1917-20 M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Ty Cobb (SGC 5, 1 of 1, Highest Graded)

Newly Discovered 1917-20 M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Ty Cobb (SGC 5, 1 of 1, Highest Graded)

Not only is this card fresh to the hobby, it is also the highest graded example known. Recently graded by SGC, it came back as a very respectable 5 (EX). Upon first view, it looks NRMT or better but closer examination reveals a tad of wear at the corners and the slightest wrinkle on the back of the card only. This issue was produced in Chicago by publisher, Felix Mendelsohn. During the period of 1917 through 1920, these card were offered in issues of The Sporting News. The Cobb, along with the Babe Ruth and Joe Jackson are the key cards in the set. Featuring a real photograph with a glossy finish, these are highly desirable. The larger than normal size combined with the relatively thin paper stock make them a bear to find in any higher grades. In fact, when you see them appear on the market, they are typically 1, 2, or a 3 once in a blue moon. As far as Ty Cobb cards are concerned, this is one that should not be overlooked.
