Beautiful, fully executed, pencil study of one of baseball’s most underrated and misunderstood ballplayers, The Rajah himself. A seminal figure in baseball lore, he was the first to successfully challenge the Ruthian record books. In the fall of 1961, he and fellow M & M boy, Mickey Mantle, electrified the baseball world as they propelled each other toward hardball immortality. In his drawing, artist Ron Stark has managed to capture the introspective Maris, while through his choice of image he conveys the subtle swagger of the Home Run King. Ron Stark’s artwork has graced the covers of Sport Collector’s Digest and the walls of many distinguished galleries, including The Ted Williams Museum. The piece measures 16x20” and is beautifully matted and framed.
