1/26/98 Dale Hunter "Fight vs. P.J. Stock" Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey (Photo-Matched)
Tough find in this 1997-98 game worn Dale Hunter Washington Capitals jersey, the best example of a Hunter sweater that we have handled. Photo-matched to January 26th (Getty 53534248) this is the jersey Hunter wore when he fought P.J Stock at Madison Square Garden. The Getty image dates the game to January 8th but Dale did not get into a fight in the January 8th game, and there is a video on YouTube showing the fight between Hunter and Stock on the 26th, in which Hunter leaves the ice with a bloody face. Dark blue jersey has Washington's bronze Screaming Eagle logo crest across the chest, with tail tagging including a special Capitals tag with Set 1 1997-98; CCM and size 56 tags are in collar. Capital Dome logo patch is on each sleeve, captain's "C" is on left breast, and number 32 is on shoulders and back in white-on-black-and-bronze tackle twill; name is in same style is on a plate above rear number. Great use is evident including team repairs, stick marks, unrepaired cuts, small burns, loose threads, and tons of pilling inside. While Hunter topped the 20-goal plateau only nine times in his 19 NHL seasons, his grit, toughness, and tenacity made him one of the league's most respected all-around talents as well as earning fan favorite status during his stops with the Quebec Nordiques and Washington. This was only the third year of this jersey style, a popular and wide departure from the red, white, and blue motif used during the first two decades of the franchise's history.
