1728 Georgian Sterling Silver Horse Racing Trophy Cup

1728 Georgian Sterling Silver Horse Racing Trophy Cup

Our cup runneth over with this gorgeous artifact from the Reign of King George I in London by silversmith James Smith I. Manufactured in London, the sterling silver cup features a classic shape with flared and rolled rim above gently curling sides on a stepped round base. The superb chase scene depicts two galloping horses with mounted jockeys racing to the finish line, one of them employing his whip. There are scrolled handles, and the bottom half of the 6"-tall and 9"-wide cup boasts superb acanthus leaves. The hallmark dates it to 1728 (Lion passant, London Mark, letter N for 1728 and maker mark of IS for James Smith I) and there are matching maker's marks on the handles. It is in EX-MT condition and radiates royalty.
