1831 Goshen New York General Store Large Sign - Oldest Horse Racing Track in North America

1831 Goshen New York General Store Large Sign - Oldest Horse Racing Track in North America

This hand-painted early wood sign relates to the town with oldest continuously operated horse racing track in North America. This historic track was opened in 1838, but informal horse races had been held along neighboring Main Street since the 1750s. It is also home to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame. The sign is for a Goshen General Store opened in 1831 predating the track. Sign itself is 20th century and is quite large at 47" across, 37" tall and 2" thick. Nice look and patina from being outdoors for decades.
