1856 to 1857 Hard Bound Issues New York Clipper Sports Magazine w/ Illustrations
Fascinating hard-bound collection of 52 New York Clipper sports weekly magazine issues from April 26, 1856 to April 18, 1857. The New York Clipper covered all manner of sports in its day. Extensive coverage of rowing, including ivy league rivals Harvard and Yale, cricket, swimming, horse racing, cock fighting, boxing and much more. This hard bound edition contains a very early drawing of a baseball field that charts the positions and the rules of the game. There is also a great section that illustrates swimming fundamentals. The boards show extensive wear and the spine is almost completely disintegrated. The inner pages, however, look great with only edge wear. Great woodcut illustrations throughout and a hand colored print of harness race horse Flora Temple.
