1880s-Current Multi-Sport Collection of Autographs, Cards and More (375+)
Substantial collection contains a little bit of everything including: vintage cards, autographs, exhibits, vintage photos, letters, pins, tickets and more. Collection goes back to late 19th century through the current modern era and covers most all sports from baseball, to boxing, to basketball, football and everything in between. Some highlights of the massive collection feature: 1) Philadelphia Sphas autographs to former major leaguer George Gilham: 1935-36 Philadelphia Sphas team signed photograph by 9: Eddie Gottlieb, Harry Litwack, Kaselman, Goldman, Gotthofer, Wolfe, Rosan, Fitch and Lautman. Also four (4) signed period photographs of Eddie Gottlieb, Harry Litwack, Reds Rosan and Cy Kaselman. Gilham ended up passing in 1937 and these were signed shortly before his death. The team photo is personalized "Speedy Recovery George." 2) 100+ Autographs: Joe Choynski signed handwritten letter, Satchel Paige, 1902 Archibald C. Gunter (Casey at The Bat), Eddie Gottlieb, Ed Reulbach, DeWolf Hopper, Max Zaslofksy, Ruby Goldstein signed book, Mel Allen, Art Shires, Pete Gray, Larry Doby, Fernando Valenzuela, Mike Schmidt and more. 3) 1880s-1950s cards (7): 1919-21 W514 John McGraw, 1888 Old Judge & Gypsy Queen (2): Zukertort and Steinitz, 1910 T25 Between the Acts DeWolf Hopper, 1926 Spalding Champions Dr. E. Leasker, 1954 Parkhurst Sammy Berg (EX), 1890 N245 DeWolf Hopper Sweet Caporal. 4) (35) signed baseballs: John "Buck" O'Neil full name stat ball, Marvin Miller, Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Spitz (2), Strug and more. 5) Three vintage boxing tickets: 1942 Shans vs. Shapiro (Full), 1961 Halimi vs. Caldwell, 1940 Baer vs. Mann. 6) (19) 1920s boxing exhibit cards: Lewis, Rosenbloom, Levinsky, Halimi, Cross, Kaplan, Rosenberg, Silverstein, Terris and more. 7) Moe Berg's personally owned Modern Philology book stamped "Morris (Moe) Berg" inside. A lot of handwritten notes inside, assumed to be in the hand of Berg himself. Other items include: Sid Luckman's personally owned tie, Mel Allen's 1953 Yankees Stadium Club pass, 1902 Metropolitan Life Casey at the Bat trading card, 1912 Spalding Basketball Guide team page, 1940s Irving Jaffee skating outfits skates in box. Isabelle Irving 1880s cabinet card, 1939 Wheaties "Casey at the Bat" cereal box back, Red Auerbach statue by Doug Corsini and more. Rest are photos, cards and more of more recent athletes with some older cabinet photos, vintage photos and more sprinkled in. There are also nearly 250 cards from the 1950s-current, mostly commemorative or common players with reprints of early 1900s card sets.
