1880s Honest Long Cut Tobacco Card Advertising Display
Fabulous 1880s display featuring cards of actresses and one Presidential Baseball Player in its original Victorian wood frame. This 44"x28" presentation with the original backing features thirty-six 2.5"x4" sepia images of voluptuous, mostly female stage beauties of the time. Sure, they were meant to titillate -- men were men even then. There is even one card of the Grover Cleveland playing baseball Carte-de-Visite issued by the same firm included in the display (this may have been added later). As the bottom says, one card came in every pack of chew or cigarettes. Some restoration patchwork has been done on the black background but this gorgeous artifact is "smoking." Includes the partial original paper label from when this was delivered to the store it was displayed in affixed to the back. A rare and important piece.
