1881 Detroit Wolverines Schedule - Detroit's First Major League Baseball Season

1881 Detroit Wolverines Schedule - Detroit's First Major League Baseball Season

In 1881, Detroit Mayor William G. Thompson bought the majority of the players from the defunct Cincinnati Reds franchise and formed the Detroit Wolverines, which joined the National League. The team finished the season with a 41–43 record which was ultimately good enough for fourth place in the National League race. This impressive 1881 schedule is one of the only relics we've ever seen from the Detroit Wolverines first season. Finding baseball schedules from this era is nearly impossible, especially for lesser known teams. Believed to be the only known example, this is truly a historic piece. One side of this 3x5" schedule is advertising for The White Elephant Cafe at 157 Jefferson Ave., Detroit, while the other side features a complete schedule for the not only the Wolverines but the rest of the National League. Piece has some creasing and flaws noticed but still presents well; printed on heavy stock paper similar in thickness to a T206 card. Appears GOOD/VG.
