1881 Jerome Park Spring & Fall Program Overviews (2)

1881 Jerome Park Spring & Fall Program Overviews (2)

Two rare programs from the American Jockey Club at Jerome Park with magnificent full-color illustrations of steeplechase horses are offered in this lot. The club was led by financier Leonard W. Jerome and August Belmont, Sr. The first Belmont Stakes, the oldest of the three U.S. Triple Crown races which was named in honor of August Belmont, Sr., was held at Jerome Park Racetrack and continued to be run there until 1890, so the spring program includes the Belmont Stakes. This is a unique lot in the annals of horse racing history. Two small one-page programs both measure a diminutive 3.75x5.75" and are in Good-VG and EX condition.
