1882 Program Showcasing Hall of Fame Racehorse Hindoo

1882 Program Showcasing Hall of Fame Racehorse Hindoo

An extremely rare, and probably unique June 14, 1882 program from the Coney Island Jockey Club, featuring Hindoo and other star horses. Hindoo won the Coney Island Stakes with top jockey James McLaughlin in the irons over Barrett. Parole was scratched from both this race and the next event in which female champion Thora won in a walk-over. Another famous horse, George Kenney, lost the Foam Stakes and noted jumper, Disturbance, won the steeplechase. Owned by the renowned Dwyer Brothers stable, Hindoo was never out of the money in 35 starts that included thirty wins. Victories included the Kentucky Derby, the Travers, and the Champion Stakes of 1881. The horse was U.S. champion at age 2 & 3 plus champion handicap star for 1882. Program is museum quality, in excellent, practically unmarked condition.
