1894 "Sandow" Statue

1894 "Sandow" Statue

Heroic figure in spelter stands 17" tall. In original gold paint. It is an amazing figure of the first and most famous bodybuilder of his day. Brilliant definition from his devastating musculature to the incised "Sandow" in base. This strongman holds this serous barbell as if it were a toy. Back of base embossed, "Copyright 1894 by N. Mullers Son & Co." EX-MT. Eugen Sandow was discovered as a sideshow "strongman" and Florenz Ziegfeld made him one of the most famous men in the world. He died from lifting an automobile out of a ditch. Today, the Mr. Olympia contest presents a bronze statue of Sandow as its trophy.
